Up-and-coming painter Kehinde Wiley is a bit of a throwback -– to the Baroque era. Wiley's oil paintings are big, colorful, beautifully painted portraits. Kurt visits in his studio to find out how he has scouted models from the streets of Harlem to West Africa.

The first time I heard of Kehinde Wiley I was at the 42nd St. branch of the NYPL. A flyer with his St. Francis of Paola painting caught my eye. I'm a Mets fan so when I saw this painting I knew I had to visit the Queens Museum of Art to see it up close. I just love his "throwback" style. His mixing of urban street style with Baroque sensibilities really works.
