A few weeks ago we asked listeners to submit original haiku inspired by the state of the economy. Dozens poured in: our own unscientific proof that the financial crisis is a boon for creativity. Here are some of our favorites.

DISREGARD QUESTION
THE OBAMA CABINET
IS WHERE THEY WORK NOW
WHY ARE THE SAME MEN
WHO CREATED THIS PROBLEM
NOT DOING HARD TIME
I thought this stimulating show, with admirable results. My own quick attempts still please me somewhat as do many of those you published. I did them just after the show but don't have the knack to post quickly. May I share them anyway?:
Financial Haiku Blues (and Reflections)
Wanting to save cash
Nearly clear out of credit
I do simply without.
Having saved that cash
And doing fairly well
"without" -- pretty cool.
What's it all about
Wolfly hungry for lots more?
Necessity smirks.
Derivatives ruled
with other gamings of greed
Some failures by plan?
Do we really care
to see such mechanisms?
Like sausage of dough, oh.
We go on wishing
like we're hoping for great dope
Send out the money.
job, house, i.r.a.
vanished like a wisp of smoke
it's only money
Government spends, spends.
We, the normal people work.
Government spends, spends.
Money is precious.
We batten down the hatches,
looking for relief.
Lifestyle downsizing:
Middleclass to poverty;
Tax breaks for the rich.
Economic woes;
Crisis looming up ahead--
Off with their hedge funds.
a monument built
on empty philosophy
how could it endure
What's that Uncle Sam?
Somethin' about a "New Deal"?
... U Socialist, Aye?
Death Of An Ad Exec
A shot to the head
beneath the bedroom window
in a field
the lawn man
sent to find his body
by the wife
at the funeral
search for business by
competitors
Five Haikus that can
Be taken together or
Can stand on their own:
-----
-----
The skills of nations
Cannot be erased by the
Tantrum of markets.
The surgeon's scalpel
As sharp as the day before
The market dropped.
The violin sounds
As full as the day before
the market's collapse.
The markets insist
The workers must stay at home.
They should disobey.
Bob can still fix cars.
The farmer's car is broken.
They ignore money.
Economic Haiku
Swiftly spring abounds
Bursting light green bright leaves frame
Dollars disappearing.
the enpty cubicle entry resonates with me.
Quality time
touching creatures in line
talk soothing.
The money gods weep,
Great golden lie-cycle crash,
As Ponzi giggles.
