Great story! I teach freshman chemistry and we just finished our unit on atomic and electronic structure. I can't wait to use this story to tie in a real world application to what we've been talking about in class. =)

I have witnessed the developing and increasing use of colored lights - usually advertising - but was happy to be instructed on the technicalities by my son
