In college, Ronald Moore's Captain Kirk dorm room poster prompted teasing, but his passion for the original "Star Trek" has paid off. A few years ago he transformed the sci-fi TV genre when he reimagined the cheesy 1980s "Battlestar Galactica" into a gripping allegory for the War on Terror.

The eighies was a unique time to be growing up. It was a different time with conflicts tempting high consequences. The science fiction of that time reflected that. Robotech, a anime adapted for the U.S. by Harmony Gold made an impact on me, perhaps others also. The series had charactors that we would be emotionaly invested in. Some had died and some faded away for a new generation to have thier time. It was about a galatic war that the earth and it's goverments found themselves caught in the middle. Aliens bent on our extintion to strip us of resorces. Politics had its presence along with the difficulties of making hard decitions.
Giant robo was another series. I was about an energy crisis and how it can be use for political and milatary gain. It also expressed the virtues and evils of science. Presenting a lesson between the truth and what people need to hear.
Resently there was "ghost in the shell" a very intelectual tv series and movies about problems we will have to tend to when it involes technoligy, politics, economics, and eithics in this new world we are entering. Many topics are already arising, or have risen after the series stated them.
I have alway had an interest in science fiction, weather it is from the U.S., U.K. or Japan. BSG was a great series thank you so much, bravo!
I missed the cylons. I love robots and believe robots should look like robots. Robby the robot, robot from "lost in space" Cylon toaster, m66, Bender, ultron, generation one transformers, veritechs fighters, darlics, cybermen, getter robo, manzingers, gigantor,r2d2, c3p0 ,ig88,patlabor av98 and unicron " a planet eating robot playd by Orson wells" are all classics. robot do not need to look human to be loved.
"My name is Victoria Winters ........" Actually its not, but that was how the daily narration began for Dark Shadows, the 1960's phenomenom of a soap opera riddled with the occult, withes, werewolves, and of course Barnabas Collins, a vampire prone to bouts of conscience.
I was in fifth grade when Dark Shadows came out. In my small suburban school I was without a cliche. I was not a jock (too small - my father, an academic, sadly tried tossing a ball AT me a coupla times. I was not a geek (egghead was the term them - too unfocused, nor was I popular, rich, nor any other of the elementary school oligarchy. BUT. When we played, I was one helluva vampire. Attacking my little sister and her friends with my teeth bared and my mouth opened too rather extraordinary dimensions. My own signature on the work was to tip my head slightly and tremble my skull. It hurt, as does I'm sure, involuntary animalism.
So in Target yesterday, I saw a bright pink sweater for a toddler that said in orange sparkles"I love vampires".......A taunt to the beast inside me, quiet all these years.
