Martha Plimpton in WNYC's Jerome L. Greene Performance Space
(Stephanie F. Black)
Martha Plimpton may be the hardest working woman in show business. In the last year she's had recurring roles in television series, had a run on Broadway, and sold out a cabaret show at Lincoln Center. Plimpton's been on stage since she was 8 years old, and she shares her thoughts on how that helped — or hindered — her growing up. Plus: Plimpton performs Bruce Springsteen's "Thunder Road."

I am embarassed to say that I have never paid much attention to Springsteen. Although I have heard "Thunder Road" many times (as background noise, without ever listening to the lyrics), Ms. Plimpton's powerful, heartfelt rendition of the song was my introduction to the song and its beauty. I will not miss her next cabaret show.
Truly amazing. I heard this on the radio while driving (the BEST place to hear Springsteen!) but I wasn't expecting it. It came as a complete suprize to me when she sang this during the interview and it hit me like a ton of bricks. A tragedy had just happened to me and some of my friends and her version of my all-time favorite Boss song was what I needed to get past the grief of loosing a friend. What she says in the interview about the "sweetness" of the song is definitely true, and she brings it all out so beautifully.
Thank you Martha and thank you NPR
