Paul Rudd’s Marriage & FDR’s Affair
Friday, December 07, 2012
Kurt Andersen talks with Paul Rudd, king of the bromance. In the new play Grace, he tries to shed his lovable screen persona in the role of an evangelical Christian motel owner. In a new movie about FDR, the fate of Europe is decided over a hot dog. And at Art Basel Miami Beach, an exhibition makes high art of the supremely annoying GIF.
Michigan Film Industry Goes Dark
The new movie Oz: The Great and Powerful comes out next spring. But like Dorothy said, they're not in Kansas anymore; this Oz was shot in Michigan. Oz was the high-water mark of an ambitious program to convert some of the state's abandoned auto plants to film studios ...
'Tis the Season for GIF-ing

Charmingly Awkward Paul Rudd
Paul Rudd returns to the role of awkward father and husband later this month in Judd Apatow’s This is 40, a quasi-sequel to Knocked Up, but he’s taking on a less familiar character on Broadway now. In Grace, Rudd plays an evangelical businessman who wants to start a chain ...

Filming in our neighborhood: The filmed part of a Friday Night Lights on my street in Madison NJ one summer a few years ago. I was about to mow my lawn, so I asked if it would bother them. The initial response was kind of "whatever". Later, when I actually started the mower, someone came running over and asked me to stop. I obliged and I didn't actually disrupt them and they said I could start up again except that they gave me a minder to signal me to stop if they started shooting. About 20 minutes into mowing they had me stop for about 10 minutes during which I had a pleasant conversation with my minder and then finished the mowing.
