Metheny and Mehldau (Michael Wilson)

Metheny + Mehldau

It used to be common for jazz superstars to team up on albums, like Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong or Thelonious Monk and John Coltrane. Today there are very few jazz musicians who have become household names, so the new collaboration between Gen X pianist Brad Mehldau and legendary guitarist Pat Metheny is making waves. Metheny and Mehldau talk with Kurt Andersen about why they speak each other's language - and why Mehldau hates being compared with the late Bill Evans.
