Laura Veirs

Laura Veirs and Saltbreakers

Brainy, whimsical Laura Veirs sings about meteors, birds and bugs, the occasional mermaid -- but also storms and natural destruction. Kurt talks with Veirs and she performs with her band, Saltbreakers, live in the studio.

LAURA VEIRS & SALTBRAKERS are my favorite artists.

Thanks Kurt for bringing THEM on your wonderful program.

I never miss any of the episodes.

Cheers.

An attractive young lady in a slightly nerdy sort of way.

She is brainy but that doesn't make her voice and musical style very inspirational.

Her voice to me has a flat repetive quality that I find somewhat unpleasant.

I have rarely heard a less talented singer than Laura Veirs. Does intelligence and quirky subject matter equal excellence in singing? I think not.

I was put in mind of a mediocre karaoke singer in an obscure bar.

Great show..always interesting content but when I heard Laura Veirs sing, I could hardly believe my ears...completely out of tune. Most strange.

Laura's voice is odd, but I absolutely love everything about it. Far from off-key or flat. Well-complemented by the band. Has the same kind of kooky, sweet, addictive feel as bands like the Sugarcubes or the B-52s. To me, anyway. What a nice surprise to hear something new and dreamy.
