Mars Rover

NASA launched two Mars Rovers in 2004, not knowing how long they'd last or what they'd find, but, almost five years later, the rovers’ discoveries have exceeded all expectations. Studio 360's Sarah Lilley looks at how the Mars Rover pictures changed the way we see the universe.

After hearing about the photos of Mars on your program the morning of December 6th, I was drawn to view them on your website. As a visual artist and poet, I have been painting landscapes that only exist in my head. I always say that these paintings are landscapes from other realms. So I had to see these photos! Each of my first 19 paintings in the series inspired a poem. These paintings and poetry were self-published in a book, "This is the Land of Two Suns." The minimal imagery and colors of my work and the barren quality of Mars have similarities. Please feel free to check them out on my website, www.shelleylowell.com. Click on "Fine Art." Thank you for the story. Eager to see the rest of the Mars photos.
