Sun Ra

Brother from Another Planet

Sun Ra was from Alabama - or from Saturn - depending on who you ask. He’s not the only musician to ride on the Mothership Connection. As professor Tricia Rose points out, the Afro-futurist urge to escape Earth continues to this day. Produced by Studio 360's Derek John.

Hi, great story, really enjoyed it and very informative. Might have been nice to tie in the Detroit Techno pioneers like Derrick May, Juan Atkins (Model 500!!), Kevin Saunderson who are/were all very much in touch with the cosmos and form an important piece of the puzzle.

Thanks for doing this story!!

Very best

Great story and I enjoyed the black-futurism tie from Sun Ra to George Clinton to contemporary artists. I feel so very fortunate to have seen Sun Ra many times and the experience was truly one of transporting your sense of reality to some other place...maybe even Saturn. Best regards.
