Hannaham Says Yes

The new novel God Says No is about a gay African-American evangelical Christian who struggles to reconcile his identity with his beliefs. The author, James Hannaham, tells Kurt why he wanted make comedy out of a weighty subject: "My friend and I invented a term for what I was trying to do with this book: 'horrorlarious,' something that is right on the line between being completely horrendous and very funny."

I just listened to this podcast, and I was so disappointed in Kurt's "Wow, Gay Black Author, represent the entire Black community" tone throughout most of it. And then he brought in the Prop 8 issue? He tread dangerously close to revisiting the biased reporting that came right after Election Day. All in all, a segment that deserved better.

I was checking out the Pratt website and I found this link. I haven't read "God Says No" but the author's description and the fact that he seems very well-informed and compassionate sparks my interest in the college. Its inspiring because I want to be a novelist that tries to promote empathy and the unconventional in my work. :)
