Whoa ! Talk about creepy or more correctly - shock value I guess. I loved the final statement from the host saying I am 6' 2" and I do have an inch on you in response to Mr. Ellroy's belligerent statement on I am 6' 1" and 175 lbs and I can kick your a%%.

I cannot believe he does not watch TV or go on the Internet and lives like a recluse.

i love your show, but this interview made me turn off the radio within two minutes. mellow like a piece of cheese spread on a cracker? good thing mr. leonard comes up with better metaphors in his novels.

Well - THAT must have been a fun interview! What an unbelievable jerk. Glad he doesn't go on the internet so this won't hurt his feelings. I won't be reading this one - and, Mr Elroy, you're not a particularly good reader, either, but obviously a legend in your own mind.

Kurt, I loved the way you rolled with Ellroy's "don't interrupt me" outburst. As a radio producer, I really appreciated your quick wit and respectful humor throughout the entire piece. Have you always been this cool with challenging interviewees or did you consciously work to develop this approach?

I'm an Ellroy fan to the end, and this interview didn't surprise me at all. Well done rolling with his punches, but thanks for letting him show his true, slightly-effed-up self all the same. Love him or hate him, the man is a poet.

I will never read any of James Ellroy's book or watch any movies based on his novel for the same reason I will never listen to KISS or have anything to do with Gene Simmons after his interview with Terry Gross. Both James Ellroy and Gene Simmons are just rude people who waste everyone's time. Always a fan of the show!!!

I like Kurt Andersen because of Heyday, Spy, and some interviews he conducted that aired on Trio when I was a kid. I had no idea he had a radio show. I like James Ellroy because of his work and his consistently entertaining interviews, whether on Conan's old show, TCM with Robert Osborne, or here.
