James Ellroy

Crime novels like L.A. Confidential and The Black Dahlia gave James Ellroy a reputation as the best modern noir writer around. His latest, Blood's A Rover, is filled with political corruption and intrigue, making it clear that the hard-boiled Ellroy isn't ready to go over easy just yet.

Whoa ! Talk about creepy or more correctly - shock value I guess. I loved the final statement from the host saying I am 6' 2" and I do have an inch on you in response to Mr. Ellroy's belligerent statement on I am 6' 1" and 175 lbs and I can kick your a%%.

I cannot believe he does not watch TV or go on the Internet and lives like a recluse.

Great interview with great poise, Mr. Anderson.

Well - THAT must have been a fun interview! What an unbelievable jerk. Glad he doesn't go on the internet so this won't hurt his feelings. I won't be reading this one - and, Mr Elroy, you're not a particularly good reader, either, but obviously a legend in your own mind.

Loose this fucking moron. You are better than this. He can take his attitude and shove it. I enjoy your program, but just turned it off. I never turn my radio off on Saturdays.

You need to earn back my interest again.

Kurt, I loved the way you rolled with Ellroy's "don't interrupt me" outburst. As a radio producer, I really appreciated your quick wit and respectful humor throughout the entire piece. Have you always been this cool with challenging interviewees or did you consciously work to develop this approach?

Thanks for inspiring me today!

I'm an Ellroy fan to the end, and this interview didn't surprise me at all. Well done rolling with his punches, but thanks for letting him show his true, slightly-effed-up self all the same. Love him or hate him, the man is a poet.

Great show!!!

I will never read any of James Ellroy's book or watch any movies based on his novel for the same reason I will never listen to KISS or have anything to do with Gene Simmons after his interview with Terry Gross. Both James Ellroy and Gene Simmons are just rude people who waste everyone's time. Always a fan of the show!!!

Ellroy said it himself. When he does an interview he tries to be outrageous and entertaining. Exactly what this program was. Thanks.

Uhhh, you're ball-headed, Mr So Full of Himself.

You're also one Severely Angry Pomposity.

On the other hand, your mom was murdered when you were 10. You're showing how tough it must be when you "don't do any work on yourself"!

Wake up,Mr. You're a mess!! Don't tell me about your books on SEVERE AWFULNESS of the world that I would never ever read. This DOES NOT make you "valid". Just because they found enough lost souls who want to emmerse themselves in such gunk. This shit you call "$uckce$$" doesn't make your angry, egotistical nonsense OK.

get help. Then write something more meaningful; more helpful.

Borderline personality disorder + wealth = unpredictable and egregious abuse of power.

Mr. Anderson, you are a true gentleman with great poise.

He calls the host rude when he is swearing on the air the whole time? What a jerk. Never liked his style of writing. Truth is stranger than fiction. Wow, what a jerk. I wish the host would have kicked him off for swearing. WHAT A JERK. His philosophies are boring.

He despises depravity? Well he must despise himself then.

I like Kurt Andersen because of Heyday, Spy, and some interviews he conducted that aired on Trio when I was a kid. I had no idea he had a radio show. I like James Ellroy because of his work and his consistently entertaining interviews, whether on Conan's old show, TCM with Robert Osborne, or here. Apparently, most of the people that listen and comment on this show are quite large pussies. Stereotypically so. You are the quintessential pussies."Uhhh, you're ball-headed, Mr So Full of Himself. You're also one Severely Angry Pomposity. On the other hand, your mom was murdered when you were 10. You're showing how tough it must be when you "don't do any work on yourself"!" That guy's my favorite.
