Writer Elna Baker tells a story of how an elegant dress from her grandmother's closet became an oddly powerful talisman for her struggles with weight, her Mormon faith, and trying out new identities. The story is part of her new memoir, The New York Regional Mormon Singles Halloween Dance. (Special thanks to Catherine Burns of The Moth.)

I enjoyed very much the story "My Grandmothers Dress" which I heard on NPR Sunday morning dealing in a humorous way the truth that the sum of a person lies within and not in their outward appearance. If there is a book. I would love to read it.
Found this to be touching and funny. First time download of podcast to listen again. Great soundtrack for story. Wonderful story of personal growth.
