Shara Worden

Interview + Performance

Friday, January 21, 2011

There’s a generation of younger musicians who grew up with rock, pop, and punk, but studied classical composition and love the diversity of sounds it offers. Kurt talks with one of this new movement's brightest upcoming stars, Shara Worden, about her influences, her training as an opera singer, and how she bridges the musical gaps between pop songs and chamber music.

voice like a flute with speech, speech like a spirit. Perspective, our condition, our evolution, our willingness to evolve, to wrestle with the angel and understand, it is us, our lesser selves, our opportunity to see beyond, to be there, or see there.

thank you,

Fabulously original sound and look. Supremely agreeable play between voice and instrumentation. A most luscious song. If there is truth and justice on the Internet, this YouTube performance should go viral.

We have with Shara Worden what seems so obvious, a young and very beautiful talent of great magnitude. I was privileged to hear her live this morning, thank you Studio 360 and NPR for bringing her to the listeners.

It is a rare moment and pleasure to hear this kind of young genius whose style pioneers a new, hybrid in voice and music genres and what a thrilling morning it was listening to her. I think it's safe to say that America has a rare and sublime flower of song and music with, Shara Worden.

What a moment in time and moment of grace listeners have been privileged to share.

It was your voice. It was your wonderful live accompaniment. It was your words and the message that they conveyed that made today's broadcast and the hearing of it so very special. You sang of love and beauty and your voice and musicians so full of the same.

Thank you and perhaps, if we are so blessed and fortunate going forward, your voice and music will be at the forefront of a new genre, of a new, hybrid American music. You've created something wonderful.

Thank you, Shara Worden and many congratulations to you and your husband on your new, lovely and beautiful baby.
