Poet Kevin Young usually tackles themes we can all relate to - family drama, losing a friend, food. He shifts course with his new book, Ardency: A Chronicle of the Amistad Rebels. It recounts a slave rebellion aboard a ship headed to the U.S. and might be the first historical epic poem published in the last century.

"Thier Eating Eyes" this is pure genius....
I like how you said "break bread as a way of community" This is like The last Supper, how we all rejoice and be a community. The late Tupac Shakur described his raps as poetry and i know how you mean these days some people are in it commercially but when Tupac rapped it came from the gut and heart.

I found the poem Ode to Hot Sauce very moving. I would love to have a copy especially as it was read by Kevin Young. Any ideas on how I can obtain it?
Thank you so much.
