Majid Majidi's Children of Heaven finally put Iranian film on the map when it earned an Oscar nomination for Best Foreign Language Film in 1999. Since then, Iran's reputation in the film world has grown to the point that an international film festival is practically incomplete without an Iranian entry. Jonathan Mitchell looked at how the Iranian film community was able to rise out of the ashes — literally.
