Travels with Charley: Spokane

Feature

Friday, March 04, 2011

In Washington State, on the western edge of the Rocky Mountains, John Steinbeck met a young man passionate about theater and hairdressing — and the kid’s furious father. Steinbeck wrote about the encounter in Travels with Charley. Fifty years later, in Spokane, we meet a proudly gay hairdresser and theater director. And we hear his father's side of the story. Produced by John Biewen of the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University.

Wow, Paradise lost. I spent seven years working in London. I return to New York City, with all the familiar places but its all different. All the old friends are gone and replaced by new unfamiliar people. Very strange indeed. Im the same but my old home has changed. Were did all my old friends go?
