Studio 360's I Love Lucy Quiz

Monday, August 01, 2011 - 06:00 AM

This Saturday would have been Lucille Ball's 100th birthday.  And to honor the queen of TV comedy, we're rebroadcasting our American Icons hour about how I Love Lucy wrote the rules of American TV.

Kurt talks to comediansacademicsa Pulitzer Prize-winning novelista famous rapper, and a couple’s therapist — all to explore how this sitcom about a Cuban bandleader and his wacky redhead wife still influences what we watch and why.

You and everyone on the planet (and perhaps even in outer space) know all about Lucy, right — are you sure?

Thanks so much for the great show and for choosing to do it.
In the very early 50s, my home had no TV (the norm then) but my grandmother (Alice Lucille – went by Lucy) was well-off and she did. Every week she would send a cab over for me to be brought to her house so that we could watch I Love Lucy.
I really think that that changed my Irish-American life. I married a Sicilian first; got divorced and then did it right and married a man of Puerto Rican blood.
Thanks again. Thanks from all of us to Lucy and you.
