Cover Story

Saturday, September 14, 2002

Kurt Andersen and pianist Gary Graffman talk about the professional, creative, and emotional lives of artistic prodigies. Graffman was a prodigy — accepted at age seven by the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. He studied with Vladimir Horowitz and he has played with all the major orchestras in the United States. He is now the president of Curtis, and a master of the repertoire for piano played with the left hand alone.
