Are we allowed to post our remixes to the public before we submit them to the competition?? Like on our personal soundclouds?

Ian - you can hear the mixes at the link up above. (

Mine was done with Reason 6. ;)

Those are really beautiful lyrics, glad that I used them in my remix!! How are everyone's coming? What programs are you all using? I can't wait to hear them!

Will there be a way for us to hear the other remixes that aren't selected?

Aug. 27 2012 01:08 PM

Drew and Brian, you're ace.

Here's another take on the lyrics via DJ /rupture:

I see wings
in songs
I gather wood
to construct an airplane

I hear the snake
who sleeps in the mountains
he sings for me
because I'm always far away

BPM is about 57.

Je prends des ailes = I take wings (flight)
Dans les chansons = In songs
Je masse du bois = I gather wood
Pour construire un avion = to build an airplane
J'entends le serpent = I hear the serpent
Qui dort dans les montagnes = who sleeps in the mountains
Il chant pour moi = He sings for me
Parce que je suis toujours loin = because I am still far away

Thanks to my friend Brian Smith for translating. I figured out the BPM using ReCycle.

Henry, the BPM is around 95. Correct me if I'm wrong.

Henry from Washington DC

Does anyone know what the BPM for this song is?

Hey MBASQ (btw, it's not, quite the opposite) -- we'll reach out to DJ /rupture and see if we can get the lyrics. Could take a couple days, so do check back!

Aug. 25 2012 06:24 PM

Could I trouble you for the lyrics? I'd like to add another vocal track but some of the words get lost in translation for me (took 3 years of French about 8 years ago so I'm more than a little rusty).

Regarding the contest rules, can we mix the provided stems with other sources of samples? or only use what you made available?

Guys! If you love this music, are intrigued by the hands and minds that create it, and your curious brain is a sponge that simply MUST learn all there is to know about it (you listen to Studio 360 so I know it is), then please check out a labor of love doc film project that aims to tell the world what everyone in Europe (but no one in the states) knows, that TECHNO MUSIC WAS BORN IN DETROIT: TechnoMECCA: The Detroit Sound Project. The trailer looks great! Check it out: and Please tell your friends and support it. I know the filmmakers would appreciate it! Can't wait to hear everyone's mixes - Best of luck!

Sure thing, davidw710!

Aug. 22 2012 11:23 AM

Can you please leave the links up to the remix contest? I would like to use it in my music class, but school doesn't start until after the contest is over!!!

Oh...I do not like that DJ comment at all.

Suppose that depends on what you consider a "DJ" to be nowadays.

Can't wait to see how this remix turns out. Thanks for the opportunity to play around with your music, Nettle! And thanks for hosting the contest, NPR!

Eric, if you are an actual musician you should be able to respect the immense talent he has. Listen to his music then tell me he's not a musician.

Aug. 20 2012 10:32 AM
eric from New York

I really like Studio 360 but hearing a DJ call himself a musician is insulting to actual musicians.

Been working hard on the remix all day and I'm really excited with how its turning out!!

I am an avid NPR listener and I've been a big fan of of Studio360 for a number of years. I listen to KNOW in Minneapolis. They've been shuffling around time slots recently and they've taken your show from Sunday at 10pm and moved it to Sunday at 6am! It's not like slots aren't open on the Weekend They're doing what they call the "Weekend Rewind," which means they repeat shows--up to 3 times. Any suggestions or insights into why you're excellent program has been relegated to the ungodly hour of 6am Sunday?
