Map: Louie's New York City

Louis CK in FX's 'Louie' Louis CK in FX's Louie (FX)

Louie has one of the most understated opening credits sequences in television, but it packs a real punch. We see our hero exiting the West 4th Street subway station and grabbing a slice in Greenwich Village before descending into the Comedy Cellar for a set. It's economical yet screams New York City. A passerby even flips the camera the bird while Louie scarfs down his pizza.

Louis C.K. puts a lot of himself into his Peabody Award-winning comedy, which starts its fourth season tonight. He writes, produces, directs, and sometimes edits the show. And its plot is largely based on his own experience as a divorced comedian raising two daughters in the city.

There are certain absurdities and indignities to life in New York, and the show makes the most of them. From a subway platform on which a violinist performs next to a showering homeless man, to a date at the iconic lox palace Russ & Daughters, to nearly getting David Letterman's job last season, it's clear that Louie wouldn't be Louie without New York City.

We're teaming up with our pals at The Guardian and we need you to help us map where to find Louie by telling us a location you've seen in the series. (And if you happen to see a place where they're filming, tell us that too). Let us know the hangout and any details about the scene and episode in the comments below or via Twitter with the hashtag #MapLouie.

Here's what we've got so far:

The gazebo where Louis follows Amia at the start of the storm (Elevator Pt 6) is in Sakura Park, across from Riverside Church. The church exterior is Riverside, not sure about the interior.

In episode 8, season 2, when Louie is walking with the abstinence advocate back to her hotel, they're walking down 53rd from 6th to 7th (as if they're going to the Sheraton). I know, because I saw them filming as I was walking home late one winter night.

wotrwokr from (correction to map)

the location on the map called:

"Hudson River Greenway"
Hudson River Greenway, New York, NY 10024
In season 4's "So Did the Fat Lady", Louie and Vanessa stroll the Hudson River Greenway

it simply is not right (watch the clip again). there is NO bridge in the background and the pavement does NOT have the pavement markings to keep traffic away from the park benches. i fact... you can clearly see a soccer goal in the background. "east river promenade" is the correct location

wotrwokr from (follow-up)

(sorry my previous entry was not in the correct "set-up"... and i don't have an address. i did my investigation off of google earth (3D) and the episode clip (looking at the backgrounds. i KNOW it's right, but don't have the data)

wotrwokr from "so did the fat lady"

final scene of "so does the fat lady" was shot at the "east river promenade" of east river park. along the tailing/waterline... south side of the williamsburg bridge (and a bit further south of the brick building). approx at midway of adjacent soccer field.

The Village Lantern is where in Season 2, Ep 9, Eddie and Louie did an open mic. They run actual open mics every single night in the basement showroom there and there's a poster commemorating it next to the stage.

I believe the benefit scene with Seinfeld was at Oheka Castle.

DKH from 724 Riverside Drive @ W. 150 Street, Manhattan

The exterior of 724 Riverside Drive has been used in previous seasons, and was seen at the beginning of this season, during the hilarious garbage truck scene.

May. 06 2014 10:51 AM

The Seinfeld benefit was filmed at Oheka Castle in Huntington.

The place he gets bullied by the SI kids is actually Zafis Luncheonette at 500 Grand St. He and his kids get mugged/harassed during Halloween in front of the drug store on the corner of Ridge & Rivington.

Louie flies out of JFK to Beijing in the season three finale.

May. 05 2014 04:36 PM

Louie emerges from the West 4th-A,B,C,D station in the opening credits.

May. 05 2014 04:32 PM

Pretty sure the cemetery in "Barney/Never" (S3,E6) is Woodlawn.

May. 05 2014 04:24 PM

For Hudson Diner, while it says Louie's girlfriend breaks up with him whilst eating pie, I am pretty sure he was eating ice cream.
