the art of the spectacle.
Father
of Funk
George Clinton and his band, Parliament-Funkadelic,

stage shows have been driving concert audiences wild since the 1960's.

The art photographer Gregory Crewdson stages his work

Karen Michel.

 Landscape
and Awe
In the 19th century, a picture of a river or a forested
mountain might be considered overwhelming in its own right, too much for
the senses to absorb. Allison Lirish Dean takes a look at that time, and talks
to a contemporary painter who plays with the landscape tradition.
